How to Calculate GPA by Hand (4.0 scale)

1. List each graded course
3. Enter the grade value (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, E=0) (pluses and minuses do not effect the grade value)
4. Enter the semester hour value
5. Multiply line items from column 3 by line items in column 4, and put the total in column 5
6. Add column 4 to get the total semester hours
7. Add column 5 to get the total quality points
8. Divide the quality points by the number of semester hours to get your grade point average

Example:

Course     Grade     Grade Value     Semester Hours     Quality Points
ENG 101     B         3                     3                            9
MAT 102     C         2                     4                            8
LAS 100      A         4                     1                            4
HIS 211       B         3                     3                            9

Total                                             12                           30

30 (Quality Points)
12 (Semester Hours) = 2.50 GPA
